At Cerritos Center for Performing Art

The explosive passion of flamenco ignites in the powerful performances of Noche Flamenca. Founded in Spain by Martin Santangelo and Soledad Barrio, the company stresses the integration of the three essential elements of flamenco:  the dance, the music, and the song. Each element inspires the others for an unforgettable experience.
“You didn’t need to be a flamenco aficionado to enjoy (Noche Flamenca’s) performance; all you needed was a pulse.  Noche Flamenca did the rest!”

8:00 - 9:30pm

Balboa Lecture Hall

RSVP at 562.437.1689 or Online.

Peruvian painter, Fernando de Szyszlo is one of Latin America’s most important abstract artists.  The subjects of his paintings are linked to the ancient cultures of the pre-Columbian world filled with sacred sites, ritual practices, mythical symbols, seascapes and desert landscapes. In the year 2000, molaa presented a retrospective exhibition of Maestro Szyszlo. Our permanent collection now includes four significant works by this renowned artist.

Please join us to “welcome back” Maestro Szyszlo for an evening conversation and lecture, hosted by molaa’s associate VP of Exhibitions, Cynthia MacMullin.

This event is in association with the Ebell Club of Los Angeles who is honoring Fernando de Szyszlo with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday, Nov. 16th.  Contact Jsoto@ebellla.com for more information regarding the Ebell event.

Olvera Street

Olvera Street is located on the general site of the birthplace of the city of Los Angeles, near the Plaza, the Plaza Church and the Zanja Madre. Originally called Vine Street, in 1877 it was renamed after Agustin Olvera, the first judge of the county of Los Angeles. Unfortunately, by the 1920’s the once robust community had become a dangerous and dilapidated area long abandoned by its prosperous founders.

So when Mrs. Christine Sterling, a wealthy young matron who loved history, found herself surrounded by original adobes and run down historic buildings, she began a crusade that would change her life and preserve the heritage of Los Angeles.

Along with several other wealthy citizens of Los Angeles, she founded the “Plaza de Los Angeles Corporation,” and became its lifelong manager. Mrs. Sterling opened Olvera Street to the general public in April 1930. Although there have been many developments in the last seventy years, her idea of a Mexican Marketplace still exists and continues to attract visitors from around the world.
